«24 Hours at EKAB Air Evacuations» [With English subtitles]
Episode 11
The show follows a 24-hour shift of the flying doctors and rescuers of the National Center for Emergency Assistance (EKAB), who every day of the year make even 10 air evacuations a day by plane or helicopter, often in bad weather, to rescue our fellow citizens facing health issues.
Sofia Papaioannou and her colleagues were at the EKAB base in Elefsina on a bad weather day, when ships couldn’t sail and planes were struggling to fly. They boarded a C-130 aircraft and managed to fly with medical teams to do rescues on Aegean islands.
The show also focuses on the chronic problem of the shortage of doctors on the islands.
