Monogramma (2022) (New Episode)
Documentary / Culture

Year of production: (2022)

People of intellect and Art were, and still are, continuously documented on the show Monogramma. People who worship and serve the Nine Muses, under the "sun of Justice" as sung in the famous song with lyrics by Odysseas Elytis, who gave the name of the show to Giorgos Sgourakis. To prove that yes, culture is still being promoted in Greece and the imaginary line that connects us to our cultural heritage has never been cut.

In each episode, the autobiographer defines the context of the film that is being made about them. Then, with their cooperation, the structure and character of the whole presentation are determined. We first study all the existing biographical data, we follow the thorough documentation of the work of the person we are documenting, we refer to the publications and interviews concerning them and after many months of preparation, we complete our television recording.
To date, about 400 persons have been documented and, in the conception of the creation of the series, we consider as very distinguishing the wide range of specialties of the autobiographers, covering almost all scientific, artistic and social areas.

Today: «Dimitris Kalokyris - writer»
Episode 10

Poet, prose writer, illustrator, graphic designer, visual artist, magazine editor, award-winning author - and for his uniqueness, Dimitris Kalokyris paints his self-portrait on the show Monogramma. He was born in 1948 in Rethymno, Crete. His father was a teacher in the junior high school of a village outside Rethymno and later, a Curator of Antiquities in Heraklion. He went on a scholarship to Paris with his family for a year, when Dimitris Kalokyris was a boy. There, he became familiar with the language. He studies at the School of Philosophy in Ioannina. At the same time, he participates in student rock bands. He writes poems and participates in an exhibition of paintings by students of the University of Ioannina. Upon his transfer to Thessaloniki, he begins to publish his texts and poems in many literary magazines. He works as a model maker in a silk-screen printing workshop. "...since I made my first book, I was fascinated by the atmosphere of the printing press, which was metal and more manual, not the electronic and automatic ones of today. So I was forced to work alongside the technicians on the cover of my book and the page layout. I used various methods there and slowly it became a main livelihood and I ended up having done about 4,000 covers. Among which not only book covers but also programs for theaters and musical performances, posters, street posters, shop posters, large 24-page posters, 48-page posters, those very large ones". In 1971 he founded the legendary magazine "Tram" and the publications of Literature and Art of the same name.
