"The Battle for Water" (With English Subtitles)
Episode 15
Sofia Papaioannou follows the people striving to protect the precious ecosystem of Antimilos, then moves south to eastern Crete.
She visits neighboring communities in the Heraklion prefecture, where disputes over water have already begun. Springs, fountains, boreholes, and artificial lakes—all are dry.
In the mountainous village of Kalamafka in Lassithi, the 18 springs and the “monster” spring—the one that once frightened locals with its eerie sound— have all run dry. It’s a blessed land, but one filled with anxiety about the future.
