Today:
"Giannis Bouteas"
Episode 9
Giannis Bouteas was born in Kalamata in 1941.
He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Kostas Grammatopoulos and later continued his studies in Paris, where he remained for about ten years, creating his first works.
In his compositions, Bouteas uses everyday materials such as rope, sheet metal, wood, asphalt, etc.—materials he often combines with neon lighting. His installations bring together the strict, geometrically structured placement of industrial materials with the seemingly random use of flexible or shapeless objects that bear the visible trace of the artist’s intervention.
His installations and interventions have been exhibited in many European cities.
In 2007, he created the large-scale installation "Stratifications – Energy Images XVI" at the Kerameikos Metro Station in Athens.
He lives and works in Athens.
