Documentary, produced in 1989.
The documentary begins with footage of the fishermen of Kalymnos preparing their boats.
It is followed by a brief historical overview of Kalymnos through the centuries, from antiquity to the period of Ottoman rule and the Italian occupation, which ended in 1948.
The film also highlights the journeys of Kalymnian sponge divers across the Mediterranean Sea — the preparation of which often begins during Holy Week and the Easter period.
The camera of the show captures the Easter customs of Kalymnos: the whitewashing of the houses, the kneading of tsourekia (traditional Easter bread), the Holy Thursday church service, the decoration and procession of the Epitaph, and the lively celebrations of Easter Sunday.
The documentary also features the tradition of hanging and burning an effigy of Judas.
In its closing scenes, it presents traditional dances and festive gatherings of the Kalymnian people.
On Easter Monday, the blessing of the sponge-diving boats takes place, and the documentary captures them as they set sail into the open sea.
