The family, the entire body of Greek traditional expression, comes as a continuation of the history, to prove that tradition is experiential and music is a living cell that is reborn through listening and rhythm. Families of traditional musicians, musical families. Fortunately, there are still several! We enter the small, enclosed universe of a musical family, in its natural space, the neighborhood, at the café, and other haunts where its music and dancing activities take place. The family, the music, the contacts, the influences, the transactions, the confessions, and the narratives about the family’s life and action, not only by family members but also by third parties. And finally a small tribute to the beneficial effect on cohesion and psychology, through the ritual of musical get-togethers.

From the very first decades of the 20th century and the emergence of the recording industry, Leros, with the Hatzidakis family, made its mark in the music world, shaping the highly promising musical tone of the Aegean islands and its dance repertoire. The "Bratsera" and "Broudzos" became synonymous not only with Leros, but thanks to the introductions and musical virtuosity of Stamatis Hatzidakis, they became the "national anthem" of the Aegean, combined with the historical context of the integration of the Dodecanese with Greece.

Subsequently, other older musicians, who were members of a larger musical family, also gained prominence, contributing to the needs of the local community.

Today, more than seven musical families are active in Leros, as well as in the rest of Greece and among Greeks abroad.

The "Artemis" cultural association of Leros shapes and preserves a multifaceted framework within which all the island's youth are involved.
Leros remains a treasure for researchers.
