Historical drama
The film depicts the years of Ali Pasha's third campaign against Souli, from 1803 to 1804, since his first two campaigns (1789, 1792) ended in defeat. The Souliotes learn that Ali Pasha plans to attack them to conquer their land. Led by Captain Fotis Tzavellas, they repel the attack and bravely face Ali's siege. Alongside them fights Vangelí, who falls in love with Captain Kogkas Drakos, but all is lost when Souli is captured after the betrayal of Pilios Gousis. The drama culminates at Zalongo, where the Souliot women, to avoid dishonor, sacrifice themselves, dancing and falling into the abyss with their babies in their arms. At the same time, the monk Samuel and the men of Souli decide to die by blowing up the monastery at Kougi.
