Anna lives alone with her dog, Manu, in a small apartment. She believes they will always be happy together. But when Manu dies, Anna doesn’t know what to do. She asks to bury him in the garden of the house across the street. That cheerful home becomes her refuge. She falls in love—with the other woman, the children, and the life they share. She falls in love with their noise in contrast to her own silence. She even falls in love with their sorrow. But the family does not truly need Anna’s love. Yet Anna, who knows well what it means to be faithful, does not give up.
Just as September is the month that separates summer from winter, September is Anna’s story about emotional borders—the testing of love, devotion, and difference.
