Shortly after the 1821 revolution, somewhere in revolutionary Greece, Liakos Bournovas (Yiannis Voglis) wants to marry Fotini (Alexandra Ladikou), the sister of the powerful Panagiotis Notaras (Petros Fissoun). Notaras, in turn, wants Liakos' sister. When Fotini is captured by the bandit captain Arvanitis (Dimitris Ioakeimidis), Liakos rescues her. His pride makes him refuse the reward that Notaras offers him. Notaras, equally proud, sends one of his subordinates to ask for Liakos' sister's hand in marriage. She commits suicide, and Liakos swears revenge. In the ensuing conflict, Notaras is wounded and, before he dies, admits his love for Liakos' sister, allowing him to marry Fotini.
