The Patras Carnival, the great celebration of joy, promises to offer unique moments again this year, culminating in the grand parade on Sunday, March 2, 2025, which will be broadcast by ERTWorld.
Dedicated to the birth of the Carnival, the King Carnival (designed by Petros Vryonis and constructed by the Carnival Workshop of the Municipality of Patras) will combine the nearly two-century history of the institution with the emblematic architectural masterpiece of Tsiller, symbolizing the city's cultural identity and heritage.
This year, the King of Carnival at the grand celebration in Patras will be "Harlequin", a central figure of the Patras Carnival, which also took a leading role in the Opening Ceremony, alongside the Apollo Municipal Theatre, a hallmark of Patras.
The Queen's float, with the Queen of the Patras Carnival 2025, Lena Bada, will be a floral float symbolizing rebirth, with a huge heart at the back, surrounded by dancing figures.
In the Grand Parade of the Patras Carnival, 17 carnival floats will parade, creations of the Carnival Workshop of the Municipality of Patras, along with over 60,000 carnival participants, both young and old. With thousands of visitors flocking from all over the country and beyond, the Patras Carnival is emerging as a cultural event with the largest gathering of youth on a European scale.
This year's carnival organization is marked by many innovations. On one hand, the start of collaboration with important local institutions, such as the University of Patras and the Archaeological Museum of Patras. On the other, the introduction of sports-related actions, the establishment of themed Carnival Villages focusing on Puppetry and Fairy Tales, and the rebranding of the Carnival flag tradition at the Town Hall, which kicks off the events, with children—the future of the Carnival—taking the lead role.
New events and innovations are introduced in this year's Carnival, such as the "Doros" and the Banner Race for people with disabilities, the revival of the Children's Song Festival after approximately 20 years, and the rescheduling of the Small Carnival Parade to earlier dates, aimed at expanding the Carnival season.
The rich event program combines the folk, traditional character of the celebration, the artistic concerns of the carnival-goers, and participation from all, without discrimination or exclusion.
