Signals, the television show with Rea Vitali, returns with a new season of 12 episodes.
The show addresses challenging topics that concern contemporary society, encouraging us to "get uncomfortable," reflect, and possibly reconsider what we take for granted.
Chronicler Rea Vitali, with an exploratory mindset and a diverse mix of guests sharing their knowledge and experiences, approaches each theme from multiple angles. She clarifies complex issues and highlights new perspectives. Sometimes looking into the past and at other times focusing on the future, the goal of the show is to provide "food for thought," not necessarily to provide answers, but certainly to stimulate insights and questions.

"The Life of Cemeteries"
Episode 6
The show "Signals", hosted by Rea Vitali, takes viewers on a journey through three iconic cemeteries in Athens. Guided by three distinguished historians, the show offers valuable insights and engaging reflections on life and death, and the art that honors memory.
The first stop is the Cemetery of Kerameikos, located in the heart of the capital. Here, the past converses with the present, with a series of walls separating the ancient cemetery from the bustling streets of the city center. "Here lies the continuation of life," comments Panos Valavanis, professor of classical archaeology at the University of Athens, as he talks with Rea Vitali about the long history of the ancient cemetery, the timeless and enduring funeral customs of Athenians, the intricate tomb monuments, and their symbolism.
Next, the show visits the renowned First Cemetery of Athens, known as the oldest cemetery in the city and a valuable guardian of historical memory and culture. Under the guidance of Dimitris Pavlopoulos, professor of Art History at the University of Athens, "Keraia" explores the "most important open-air sculpture gallery in Greece," as he presents some of the most impressive tomb monuments housed in this space.
The final stop is the Third Cemetery of Nikaia, the largest cemetery in the Balkans. Established just a few years before the beginning of the Occupation period and the great famine that struck Athens, the Third Cemetery stands as a site steeped in harsh memories, a place of remembrance for the innocent and unjustly lost.
Finally, Rea Vitali meets Zetta Antonopoulou, art historian and head of the Historical Archives of the Municipality of Athens, who describes the cemetery's most significant landmarks as expressions of its popular character and evidence of collective passions. "The cemetery is not only a place for the dead but also for the living.
