Today:
"The Night Owls"
Night: the dream-weaver. The beginning of misunderstanding.
A fertile ground for the birth of infatuation. A safe haven for the lonely and the oppressed. The "holy protector" of the proud working class, weaving its enchanting veil in the eyes and imagination of its observers.
In the echoes of the day and amid the dark buildings and apparent desolation of the city, the creatures of the night see the light spilling from all kinds of night establishments. These luminous night beacons are our allies in our personal darkness. They provide comfort and relief for those who don't fit into bed, who consciously "stretch" conventional time, and synchronize their internal clocks to opposite rhythms.
The workers in these overnight spaces act as guardian angels, vigilant sentinels against our existential trenches and deeper needs. They satisfy our hunger, listen to our stories, offer the joy of our eyes, serve us the most comforting drinks, keep our paths (and our cars) clear, supply us with necessary fuel, and are present for births, while some even provide death services—our own deaths. The tireless night workers have seen, lived, and heard far more than the day people, knowing one truth: "You can survive without integrity during the day, but you won't manage at night."
These overnight spots open their doors to us, and their people open their hearts, sharing enchanting night stories. They are the ones who generously gift us a great day within the night: Triantafyllos Dimopoulos (Kanto Labiko employee), Kostas Dimou (cleaning staff), Kalliope Ilia (manager of Ciao Italia), Dimitris Zacharopoulos (obstetrician-gynecologist - doctor of gynecology at the University of Athens), Giannis Kazantzidis (garbage truck operator), Akis Kapranos (film critic - musician), Fani Kourtopoulou (dancer), Panagiotis Lamprou (gas station employee), Giannis Lianopoulos (vehicle engineer), Dimitris Maniatis (journalist), Bianka Bogdanou (pharmacist), Liakos Bournovas (writer), Maria Pantazi (canteen employee), Denis Papathanasiou (owner of Kanto Labiko), Christos Savvalidis (funeral home owner), Nikos Spiridakis (owner of Amam), Christos Triantafyllou (reception manager at Coral Hotel Athens), and Thodoris Filipakos (head of cleaning at Nea Smyrni Municipality).
