«Chalki» - Part 1 [With English subtitles]
Episode 7
Between Rhodes and Tilos, lies Chalki, the small island, with its colorful houses that spread out as part of a charming setting, around the port. It is afternoon and “Nisos Chalki”, the boat that connects Chalki with Rhodes, arrives at the port. Its captain, Vasilis, was born on a caïque and knows the signs of the weather; upon arrival he rushes to pull his trehantiri to the small shipyard of the island before dark. The next morning, the bells ring joyfully, dawning Epiphany. Father-Savvas celebrates the liturgy with the few who gathered in the church and then all together go down to the port to throw the cross. Later, Father-Savvas, the young man who caught the Cross and the church's commissioner, Dimitris, wandered the streets of the island from the afternoon until sunset. With a sprig of basil, the priest "sanctifies" all houses, tourist accommodation, newly erected buildings to drive away any evil. When night comes, the small procession arrives at its last stop, the church.
