Weekly Hour-long Series, ERT3 Production, 2020
"GREEK ACTS" embarks on a journey to explore, document, and present the timeless cultural expressions of people and places.
The journey, music, myth, dance, and the world—these are the destinations of the series.
This year’s exploration spans from Crete to Evros and from the Ionian to the Aegean, showcasing a vibrant array of ethnographic, anthropological, and musical expressions. Authentic creations of people and places come to life.
The lens of the series delves into and reveals the mosaic of Greece’s creative present and enduring cultural legacy. Through a careful selection of key figures, events, and locations, it crafts a dynamic anthology. With music, stories, and imagery, it connects the viewer to the pulse of tradition.
The human element takes center stage—life and voice in the first person, accompanied by sounds, visuals, customs, and behaviors. The rhythms' journey, the history of dance "written step by step," celebratory rituals, and every human endeavor are filmed in their natural and social environments during their authentic execution—avoiding staged recreations.
This approach defines and shapes the unique identity of the series, which presents the unfiltered connection between music, people, and places.

«Sokratis Sinopoulos»
Episode 10
Sokratis Sinopoulos expresses in the most complete way the meeting of traditions with the contemporary creative musical reality of our country. He is a musician who, by stepping into the flow of his creative times and participating with his lyra in numerous formations throughout the Greek territory, shaped and crystallized his personal musical style and ethos, conquering a prominent position in the new musical era.
In his hands, the Constantinople Lyra, an instrument with a deep and extensive history, was reborn. Through its minimal to negligible presence in recent years, it has come to play a leading role with a new musical identity, with new sound colors, accompanying and transforming elements of Greek tradition with its personal style in musical collaborations of a global scale.
The ancient and contemporary sounds of Socrates Sinopoulos' strings resonate with history itself, traversing narrative places and times. His open-mindedness towards contemporary approaches to musical traditions, on which he has worked with dedication for many years through research and documentation, manifests in his creative work and personal style. The paths from the lyrical lament of his lyra to the voices and vibrations of the West are intricately intertwined, creating routes and historical sequences with expanded emotions and embraces in musical realms.
Socratis Sinopoulos narrates his biographical journey in front of the camera and reveals to us the process of his personal creative journey. He interprets elements from his entire body of work, highlighting the unique expressive aspects of his Lyra, collaborating with fellow Lyra players Stratis Psaradellis, Chrysanthi Gika, and Dimitris Karachristodoulou.
He also interprets his more recent internationally recognized musical production, collaborating in his musical ensemble Metamodal with Yiannis Kyrimkyridis (piano), Dimitris Tsekouras (bass), and Dimitris Emmanouil (percussion).
Meanwhile, the voice of Katerina Papadopoulou highlights the direct relationship between the "psycho-genetic" affinity of the "vocal" strings of the Lyra and her vocal expression.
