"Islands on the Edge" is a documentary series by ERT3 that portrays the life of a few inhabitants on small outlying islands. Through a cinematic view, the experiences of the people, their stories, the past, the present, and the future of these remote places are captured. Each episode is a journey, a collection of images, faces, and moments of everyday life. An attempt to understand a different world, a small isolated land surrounded by sea.

Episode 3
A short distance from the Turkish coast and near Patmos lies a cluster of small islands that form part of the Dodecanese. Among this tiny and little-known Aegean “Polynesia” are the Arki islands.
Life here moves at two speeds: down by the small harbor, the island’s only settlement, and up in the rocky hills where the last shepherds still live.
It’s Holy Week. Locals have begun to arrive. Will all the women gather to decorate the Epitaphios? Where will the Resurrection service take place this year—and who is the volunteer priest who has served everywhere from Kosovo to Somalia? Manolis, known as "Trypas", who runs the island’s legendary taverna (visited by all sorts of people over the years), is still undecided—will he attend the Resurrection this time? Is it true that Katrina, who came years ago from faraway Ukraine, makes the best fish soup on the island? And just above, in a primeval landscape of rocks and dry-stone walls, Lazaros the shepherd lives in a parallel world. While he roams among the ancient stones, down in the harbor, a celebration begins.
