The impoverished orphan Manto strives to care for her sick father. She captures the heart of a fellow poor musician, but her affections lie with Loris, a man of higher social standing. Loris falls victim to a cunning woman's scheme, abandoning Manto, who soon gives birth to their child. Although the musician supports her, Manto, upon learning she has a serious illness, takes her own life. In the end, Loris realizes his mistake and takes their child into his care.
