The past.
Kyveli is left in a small basket outside the home of Maria, a cleaning lady, and Anastasios, a shoemaker. The couple, unable to have children of their own, adopt her with the help of Mrs. Leonardou, in whose house Maria worked. Kyveli grows up and attends an elite private school, supported by the wealthy employers. From an early age, she realizes there's only one place where she truly feels superior—on the stage of children’s plays. She begins her acting career young. But her parents, fearing the social stigma that followed actresses at the time, marry her off to her co-star, Mitsos Myrat. Kyveli and Myrat have two children together. Unfortunately, love is absent in their home. And so, Kyveli is easily drawn in by the promises of the wealthy producer Theodoridis—of a grand life, on prestigious stages, in major roles.
