The program “Greek Acts” continues its journey through the authentic cultural expressions of people across different regions and takes us to the “Agiasos Reading Room” — an artistic organization dedicated to the creation of true art, both original and pioneering for all of Greece.

With its rich and multifaceted activity in the fields of education, music, theater, and visual arts, the organization has had a defining impact on the cultural and social life of Agiasos and the island of Lesvos as a whole. Through its impressive library, the staging of notable theatrical and music-dance performances, the organization of literary lectures, and the promotion of local traditions — including Agiasos folklore and dialect — it has become a cornerstone of Aegean culture.

Cultural expression thrives in Agiasos, with the Reading Room at its heart. It houses an extensive library, supports vibrant publishing activity, has established an art gallery and a folklore museum, and offers music, dance, and theater education to students from across Lesvos. One of its most unique contributions is the organization of a highly authentic carnival during the Greek Apokries, celebrated with the active participation of villagers — keeping alive the strong tradition of folk satire, expressed in the vivid local dialect.

What truly distinguishes the Agiasos Reading Society on a national level is its Traditional Orchestra and the recently established Center for the Study of Eastern Music.
