"Giorgos Stamatakis"
Episode 6
Giorgos Stamatakis was born in Heraklion, Crete, in 1979 and graduated from the Painting Department of the Athens School of Fine Arts Athens, in the workshop of Panos Charalampous, in 2019.
In his art studies is included the International Exchange Program at the Tokyo University of the Arts Shinji Ohmaki Laboratory of Sculpture in 2018 and 2019, with a scholarship from the Jasso organisation. Stamatakis also has a degree in Economics (Marketing) from the University of West Attica and a degree in Journalism and Mass Media. The intense landscapes of his Mediterranean homeland are a recurring image in his work.
Stamatakis undertakes his share of the action, as, in the words of Alessandra Pace below, "Taking the risk of a delicate balance, Stamatakis praises nature and at the same time beautifies destruction, warning us of the climate change and implying the need for a deep cultural change. But, he does so through a traditional, representational art that follows conventional paths that we all understand".
The – paradoxically – familiar to all subjects that he presents through the depictions of his memories on paintings that look like polaroid photos, seek, this time, to alert viewers about the risks of atmospheric pollution.
