In the 1990s, Greek music experienced a major transformation as it entered the digital age, with CDs becoming the dominant format. Songwriting evolved, as emerging artists blended melodic sensibilities with diverse influences. New media platforms began to surface, and traditional sounds enjoyed a notable resurgence.

Thessaloniki cultivated a distinct music scene of its own, while Greek rock and electronic music rose in popularity. Meanwhile, hip-hop started to take root, introducing fresh avenues for social expression.
