PARASKINIO honors the memory of Domna Samiou, the most important performer and also researcher of Greek traditional music. Domna dedicated almost her entire life to the study and dissemination of traditional music and song, having truly served it since the age of 13.

She was born on October 12, 1928, in Kaisariani, Athens. Her parents were refugees from Asia Minor, from the village of Baindiri, in the region of Smyrna. Her mother came to Greece in 1922; her father, a captured soldier, arrived a bit later through the Population Exchange. In the environment of Kaisariani, she had her first musical experiences, from which her love for traditional music sprang.
