In Greece, the name Jules Dassin is closely associated with his wife, Melina Merkouri. The program “Paraskinio”, in tribute to the American director who passed away on March 31, 2008, sheds light on a lesser-known period of his life. The son of a Russian-Jewish emigrant, he was born in 1911 in New York and took his first steps as an actor at the American Jewish Theatre. He later joined Broadway’s avant-garde theatre groups during the 1930s, where he also made his directorial debut. His success in the theatre secured him a place in the film industry.
