"Wooden boatbuilding: An Art in Threat"
Episode 10
Wooden boatbuilding has been an integral part of Greece's maritime identity since ancient times. However, this craft has faced significant losses over the years, with thousands of wooden boats—once considered unique works of art—being destroyed. Today, fewer boatbuilders remain, and most focus on maintenance rather than new construction.
We travel to Syros, the historic heart of wooden boatbuilding in Greece, and visit the country's oldest active shipyard. We speak with experts and researchers working to preserve this tradition, as well as with boatbuilders and young apprentices training in this craft.
