A series of documentaries, internally produced by ERT.

Close Up explores the work and lives of Greek creators, artists, scientists, and everyday people whose stories are exceptionally engaging.

The first-person narrative forms the foundation of each documentary, encompassing memories, experiences, beliefs, and emotions. The individual gradually unfolds, revealing their work within its historical context, highlighting its significance, qualities, and uniqueness. Beyond individual stories, the series showcases various creative initiatives—social, ecological, and scientific—that, despite their intriguing nature, often remain unnoticed.

Each documentary has a duration of fifty minutes, with filming taking place both in Greece and abroad. It's worth noting that documentaries from this series have already participated in recognized festivals in Greece and internationally, winning awards and distinctions.

Today: "The Talking Cardboards: Karagiozis and the Haridimos"

The delightful narrator and master of the art of shadow theater, Sotiris Charidimos, reveals his family's century-old connection to shadow theater and the world of Karagiozis.

Sotiris H. is the youngest of six sons of one of the first Karagiozis puppeteers in the history of Shadow Theater, Christos H., and the brother of the great artist, Giorgos Charidimos, who brought laughter to both children and adults for many years in his little theater in Plaka, which was tragically lost.

The invaluable archive of the Charidimos family, featuring photographs, audio recordings from performances by the father, programs, promotional leaflets, publications, editions, puppets, sets, period advertising, scenes from the old Greek cinema, and archival shows from Greek and French television, as well as Sotiris' captivating stories about Piraeus, Tzarouchis, and Julio Kaimis, not only highlight the Charidimos family's love for Karagiozis but also the socio-political changes of each era as reflected on the shadow theater stage.

Meanwhile, during the course of the film, another Karagiozis performance is being prepared...
