"Monogramma" has uniquely recorded the individuals who have marked the intellectual, cultural, and artistic trajectory of our country with their presence and work. It has been characterized as a "National Archive" by the press, and for the first time in 2012, the Academy of Athens recognized and awarded audiovisual work, awarding producers and directors George and Ero Sgourakis the Academy of Athens Award for their entire body of work, particularly for "Monogramma." The reasoning behind this was that "…their biographical programs constitute a valuable portrait of Greeks who acted in the past but also in our era and created, as it was characterized, a work "for the next generations".
The idea of creating this series came from producer-director George Sgourakis, to present the life, work, and worldview of individuals who act in the intellectual, cultural, artistic, social, and public spheres, in an autobiographical format so that there is no interference and the cinematic document is preserved in its purest form.
The format of each episode aims at presenting the autobiographical (visual and audio recording) of an individual who operates in the intellectual, artistic, cultural, political, social, and public life, in a way that engages the interest of contemporary viewers.
Today:
"Ilias Andriopoulos (Composer)"
Musical expression enriched with rare melodies, unique timbres, and poetic language imbued with ideals, visions, and hope defines the work of composer Ilias Andriopoulos. His solid body of work resonates deeply, touching the essence of Greek sensibility, interweaving the profound poetic word with the musical expression of a significant composer-creator.
Born in Lantzoï, Ilia, near Ancient Olympia, Andriopoulos grew up in an environment that shaped his artistic nature and sensitivity, rooted in both older and modern elements of life.
Ilias Andriopoulos began and completed his musical studies at the “Hellenic Conservatory of Athens,” having early on explored and discovered masterpieces of classical music and their composers. However, his strong Greek heritage led him to embrace and contribute to the genre known as entechno laikó, which he has faithfully and ethically served for over three and a half decades.
Through his creations, we have dreamed, reflected, and shaped our consciousness and national identity. Works such as Letters to Makriyannis (lyrics by M. Eleftheriou and M. Bournbouli), Popular Suburbs, Orientations by Odysseas Elytis, Odes by Andreas Kalvos, Argonauts with poetry by George Seferis, Nikos Gatsos, and Manos Eleftheriou, and The Foreign Doors, among others, have left an indelible mark.
In the vast sea of music, the archipelago and immensity of sound—as Andriopoulos himself describes it—he has strived to leave a trace of nobility and beauty that expresses the contemporary yearning of Hellenism and captures the psyche of our times.
His works have been performed by prominent orchestras in Greece and abroad at international festivals, prestigious venues, and hundreds of concerts worldwide.
Renowned artists such as Sotiria Bellou, Dimitris Mitropanos, Haris Alexiou, Vicky Moscholiou, Lakis Karalis, Maria Dimitratou, and Savina Yannatou have interpreted his music.
As an author, he has published the books Narration of Sounds and Echoes and Reflections.
Introduced by the producer Giorgos Sgourakis.
