Τhe Era of Images (Season I )   (R)
Documentary / Arts - Literature

Year of production: (2024)

The new season of THE ERA OF IMAGES focuses once again on sociopolitical issues, prominent figures in artistic creation, origin stories from the Greek diaspora, the formation of collections, and works and artists who encourage and are inspired by the concept of coexistence. Highlights of the new season include, among others, South African artist of Greek descent Penny Siopis with her retrospective at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST), the DEMOCRACY exhibition at the National Gallery, MOMus in Thessaloniki and the history of its collections, NEON’s Space of Togetherness exhibition at the School of Irene Papas, and the 50th Venice Biennale—a staple and pinnacle of the show since 2003.

Today: "MOMus"
Episode 3

"The Era of Images" visits the MOMus Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, occasioned by a particularly significant exhibition from the museum's collections, which are closely linked to its founding.

The exhibition "From Here On. Stories for the Next Tomorrow" features a small selection from the now vast collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art, alongside the collections of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and the State Museum of Contemporary Art. These collections were merged when MOMus was established in 2018.

The museum's artistic director, Thouli Misirloglou, speaks with Katerina Zacharopoulou about the exhibition, the works, donations, and the role of Alexandros Iolas in the creation of the collection. Key figures in the museum’s founding and development share small, powerful stories about the collection, the artists, and the people who, for years, contributed to the identity of the institution.

Among them are Maria Lagios, Katerina Kamara, Kleopatra Diga, and Deni Zacharopoulos. Through these stories, we gain insight into how the first contemporary art museum in Greece was created, while the tales behind the artworks are numerous.

The exhibition features 100 artists, with narratives of artists' lives, unique experiences, moments of unexpected surprise, deeply traumatic experiences, stories of oppression and control, sexuality, and identity. Some of these stories are shared in this special broadcast.
