On Sunday, we visited the "balcony" of Western Macedonia. From Palia Kastania Servion, the view of Polyfytos Lake and the Pieria Mountains is truly captivating. Kostis explores the history of the area, from the legendary Castle City of Servia (some have called it the "Mystras of Macedonia") to the monastery of Agios Antonios. He chats with the locals about their roots, which trace back to Pontus and Cappadocia, and through their music and songs, their memories come to life.
At the Nautical Club, he meets Panagiotis Makrygiannis, a world rowing champion, and at Chounis Gorge, he encounters the "trechalakis," a group of volunteers who open paths and organize mountain running races. At the Folklore Museum, we hear touching stories about the village, and then we cook up a delicious gouliano lemonato. Thanks to the efforts of the Cultural Association, Palia Kastania Servion has once again become a popular destination.
