A poor, part-time student who sells newspapers along with his sister to make ends meet financially encounters a wealthy girl confined to a wheelchair, whom he falls in love with. At the same time, he has to face both the war waged by her stepmother and the needs of a little orphan boy who sells trinkets on the street.
