A documentary series capturing the oral testimonies of Greek creators during pivotal periods of their lives, their work, and their country. Each creator selects a specific year crucial to their work and narrates their life during that period, the work they are preparing, along with any underlying contexts, interdependencies, and reinterpretations that connect it to their personal life.
Simultaneously, the series presents historical events of the country taking place in the same year, events that define, complement, or even interpret the preceding circumstances. All of these, of course, are framed as preserved and selected by memory.
The purpose of the series is to capture "stories" that revolve around the realm of oral testimony.
Today:
"Michalis Ganas - 1978"
The poet Michalis Ganas introduces himself by referring to his origins from Epirus and the difficult childhood he experienced during the Greek Civil War.
In the context of the program, he reflects on past memories that are captured in his 1978 poetry collection Ακάθιστος Δείπνος ("Akathistos Dinner") and in his prose piece Μητριά Πατρίδα ("Stepmother Homeland"), published in the literary magazine Χρονικό ("Chronicle").
The discussion also touches upon the literary trends and poets prominent at the time of Ganas' first poetry collection release.
He shares insights about his friendships and interactions with many notable poets from that period, such as Michalis Katsaros, Dimitris Maronitis, Giorgos Koropoulis, Christos Bravos, and Markos Meskos.
Archival material further enriches the presentation, offering a glimpse into the historical and political events that marked both Greece and the world in 1978.
