Antonis Tsilivikis is a successful building contractor but an incredibly stingy husband. He neglects his household and does nothing for his beautiful wife, Eleni. Antonis owes his success to the regular dollar remittances from Pete Papatheofilopoulos, Eleni's uncle in America, who believed she was widowed after she wrote to him with that story. Now that Pete is coming to Greece, Antonis has to pose as a tenant of a room belonging to a retired man named Beizanis in Eleni's house. Things take a chaotic turn when Pete decides to marry Eleni off to a wealthy Greek-American friend of his. To prevent losing Eleni and to keep the situation under control, Antonis is forced to spoil her, abandon his stinginess, and move his family into a brand-new apartment in a building he recently constructed.
