ATHENS IS FREE -TRIBUTE

ERT pays tribute to the indomitable memory of martyrs, who remember the glorious days of Athens' liberation from the Nazi Germans on October 12, 1944. ERT participates in the celebratory commemorations of the anniversary of the defeated Germans' departure from the Greek capital.

Author Alki Zei, National Resistance fighter Manolis Glezos, poet Titos Patrikios, and journalist Christos Pasalaris speak about the emotions and the unspeakable joy with which Athenians greeted the 'exit of the conqueror.' This tribute, titled 'The Liberation Days,' features the last living witnesses of those days of glory, describing the moments of happiness they experienced but also the sadness they felt when faced with the destruction left behind by the barbaric conquerors when they sensed the heavy shroud of occupation lifting from Athens on the morning of October 12, 1944.
