The 1966 film adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's play The Government Inspector (Ο Επιθεωρητής) is a comedic take on corruption and misunderstandings in a public institution. In this version, actor Dinos Iliopoulos plays Lampros, a traffic inspector who is mistakenly identified as a financial inspector by corrupt employees at the "Organization for Public Services." These workers, fearing their own exposure due to hidden financial irregularities, attempt to win him over, hoping he will overlook their illicit activities and return a compromising book.
The comedy unfolds as Lampros navigates the absurd situation, and by the end, the true inspector arrives, revealing the truth. Ultimately, the corrupt employees show remorse, and Lampros ends up supervising them. The film humorously highlights the theme of mistaken identity and the lengths people will go to cover up corruption.
