'Balkan Express' is a series that marks its second decade on the ERT television program. It's a continuous journey through the Balkans, aiming to reconnect the Greek audience with a region of our geography that holds significant importance for our history, culture, economy, and future. The Balkans stand as the Bible of European civilization, a workshop shaping history, a geostrategic crossroads, and a space fostering Greek outwardness.

'Balkan Express' forges a bond with a neighborhood where we are called to coexist within a European framework and collectively manage vital issues. It's an enthralling experience in an unexplored part of Europe, rich in unique natural diversity, gastronomy, music, folk culture, modern life, and innovative spirit, offering much to the present day.

In this episode we take you on a journey through the Serb Republic, also known as Republika Srpska, and its capital, Banja Luka. We start our tour at the farmers' markets, where the heart of the city beats, and we continue to the Orthodox Church of Sotiros (the Savior), the Ferhadija mosque, the medieval castle, and its university library. We learn about the legendary "Forbidden Love" of the Muslim girl Sophikada, but also about the humanitarian organization "Genesis Project", which cultivates the values of coexistence, tolerance and peaceful resolution of disputes, having won many international awards for its action. We continue to the gigantic social-realist Monument to the Revolution or "Kozara Monument", on top of a mountain in northeastern Bosnia, where in 1942 was fought a decisive battle between the defending Partisans and the German and their Croatian Ustaše allies. Our next stop is the Orthodox monastery "Krupa na Verbasou", but also the thermal baths "Vručica", just outside Banja Luka. Our journey ends at Krupa waterfalls, with their watermills, where legends continue to be alive, but also with traditional songs of the Bosnian Krajina.
