On the fifth episode of the 3rd Season, GREEN STORIES travel to the wider area of Volos and Lake Karla. Margarita Papastergiou meets biologist and ornithologist, Dr Giorgos
Catsadorakis and discusses the draining of Lake Karla in the 1960s and the subsequent regeneration. What were the reasons for its draining and what were the consequences? How is the lake significant for biodiversity and especially for the birds of the region?
Also, Professor Thanasis Sfoungaris talks about the rural landscape surrounding Karla and about
agricultural practices which are friendly to biodiversity.
Next up on today’s episode, Giorgos Sfikas, painter, writer, and naturalist, talks about his career in recording Greek nature, especially plants, through his work as a painter.
