Over the past decade, Greek television has faced significant changes, aligning with the economic, social, and intellectual crises in Greece. One of the main issues identified is the absence of consistent and enduring values on TV—the so-called "anchors" that would foster a deep, organic trust with the audience. These anchors have historically been central to successful television ventures, as they establish a bond where viewers look forward to programming almost conspiratorially.
ERT, Greece's public broadcaster, has maintained some of these "beacons" of television, producing quality programming that viewers eagerly anticipate. Shows like "Παρασκήνιο" ("Behind the Curtain") have established a rich narrative tradition that merges the documentary's cinematic experience with television storytelling, highlighting themes and personalities from the often-overlooked intellectual side of Greece.
The new program, "Postscript" ("Υστερόγραφο") aspires to continue this tradition by fostering engaged and discerning viewers. It aims to explore contemporary Greek values through a cinematic style that unveils the "truth and poetry" of reality. The directors of Ysterografo, such as Lakis Papastathis, Eva Stefani, Giorgos Skevas, Ilias Giannakakis, Apostolia Papaioannou, and Giorgos Kravvaritis, bring decades of documentary experience, having already contributed significantly to Greece's narrative culture both locally and internationally. This project seeks to include new and experienced directors alike, focusing on topics and figures from a cultural Greece rarely seen on television.
