The family, the entire body of Greek traditional expression, comes as a continuation of the history, to prove that tradition is experiential and music is a living cell that is reborn through listening and rhythm. Families of traditional musicians, musical families. Fortunately, there are still several! We enter the small, enclosed universe of a musical family, in its natural space, the neighborhood, at the café, and other haunts where its music and dancing activities take place. The family, the music, the contacts, the influences, the transactions, the confessions, and the narratives about the family’s life and action, not only by family members but also by third parties. And finally a small tribute to the beneficial effect on cohesion and psychology, through the ritual of musical get-togethers.

Thanks to the perseverance and musical skill of the musical families of Almopia, the music of their region, from supervised and censored became beloved modern traditional music which is not missing from any feast, festival, or dance club throughout Greece. The musicians of this region were coerced into forgetting the words of the songs and keeping only the music. Remnants and rigidity of a not-so-distant, but supervised past, are still encountered today! The Diskos family, with first in line the renowned Giannis Diskos, who is artistically active in Athens, lives in Aridaia, with origins from Arnissa and Xino Nero of Florina. The father, Tasos Diskos, created an entire school, both with his three children and also with his many students. Clarinets, bagpipes, saxophones, trombones, cornets, percussion, and kavals are recorded and shown as part of the series MUSICAL FAMILIES on ERT3.
