«Messolonghi» [With English subtitles]
Episode 11
We travel to a city of heroes, which has inspired poets and authors and has come to represent freedom and the Greek revolution. In the celebrated lagoon of Messolonghi, Jerome goes boating, admires its feathered inhabitants and learns all the secrets of the life of the old fishermen who lived in the ‘pelades’ - the traditional wooden huts. In the ‘Water City’ of Aitoliko, he assists in the production process of the famous "Avgotaracho" (fish roe) of Messolonghi, which ranks amongst the world's top culinary products. He visits the hangout of the poet Kostis Palamas, where the favorite ouzo of the Messolonghi residents has been made since 1901, based on a secret recipe, while he meets members of the Agios Simeon festival association, to learn more about the mystical, historical, religious and authentic folk character of the famous local festival.
