'Balkan Express' is a series that marks its second decade on the ERT television program. It's a continuous journey through the Balkans, aiming to reconnect the Greek audience with a region of our geography that holds significant importance for our history, culture, economy, and future. The Balkans stand as the Bible of European civilization, a workshop shaping history, a geostrategic crossroads, and a space fostering Greek outwardness.

'Balkan Express' forges a bond with a neighborhood where we are called to coexist within a European framework and collectively manage vital issues. It's an enthralling experience in an unexplored part of Europe, rich in unique natural diversity, gastronomy, music, folk culture, modern life, and innovative spirit, offering much to the present day.

In this episode we continue our journey to the wild valley of the Drina River, between eastern Bosnia and Serbia, having again as our "co-driver" books and thoughts by Nobel laureate Yugoslav writer Ivo Andric. We start from the legendary Drina Bridge, at Visegrad, which stars in Andric's book of the same name, and we go to school where the author learned to read and write. We continue to a newly built stone city, Andritzgrad, which is essentially an open theme park, with a museum, a theater, a church, and a cultural center dedicated to Andric. Our next stop is Stari Brod, on Drina’s banks, where 6,000 Serb civilians were brutally killed by the fascist Ustaše during World War II. We continue to Zvornik with its castles, churches, and bridges, where we get to talk to a family of Serb refugees from Sarajevo, who started over their new life here and also a successful business activity. We climb to the medieval Zvornik castle, we visit the newly built Orthodox church, the old iron bridge, and Drina River fishermen. Our journey ends by watching his epic union between Drina and Sava rivers.
